In the year 2020, the pandemic hit our sacred shores. It was devastating to our country as well as the global world at large. How many people had to die before this pandemic was under control?

It is during this tempestuous period that I started to write several poems. Rather than complaining about how our nation was conducting its policies, I felt like I was doing something positive as well as therapeutic to get through these hard times. Masking, social distancing, and testing became a constant in our family. Listening to the news, the medical experts, and the CDC became a habit in our household.

Throughout this time, I continued to write poem after poem about various topics which helped me deal with some very trying times. I have also collaborated with my friend Richard Poletick, a Juilliard student. As of this date, we have put to music nine of my poems.

In January 2021, I was diagnosed with stomach cancer stage four and have been undergoing chemotherapy at Sloan Kettering. I was advised that this cancer is not curable and hopefully could be arrested for a few years.

During this entire period, I have been doggedly writing poems about COVID, Trump, death, my lovely wife, family, and other memorable quotes and ideas for my family and dear friends. I just wanted to share my ideas and thoughts and have a positive effect on anyone who read my writings. I was hoping that they would have a memory of this older man sharing some of his thoughts and ideas in his twilight years.

I have now finished my second book of poems and I hope whoever reads this collection will find it entertaining, insightful, and helpful. I would like to end this with a parting quote that we probably should all live by: “The past is history, the future is a mystery and the present is a gift.”
