The Battle of Vimy Ridge
The Battle of Vimy Ridge was a critical moment in World War I, as it marked the first time that all four divisions of the Canadian Corps fought together as one cohesive unit. The strategic significance of capturing Vimy Ridge was enormous, as the heavily fortified German positions posed a major threat to the Allied forces. Prior attempts by the French and British forces to seize the ridge had failed, resulting in significant casualties.
However, under the command of General Arthur Currie, the Canadian soldiers devised a meticulous plan that involved extensive preparation, tunneling, and underground warfare tactics. The battle lasted for four days, and against all odds, the Canadian Corps emerged victorious on April 12, 1917.
The Price Brothers' Heroic Contribution
During the Battle of Vimy Ridge, Lindsay Price and his brothers displayed immense bravery and played a crucial role in the success of the Canadian Corps. As a group, they fearlessly charged through the enemy lines, fought off German soldiers, and secured key positions on the ridge.
Lindsay, being the oldest brother, took it upon himself to shield his younger siblings from harm's way. He selflessly put his life on the line, leading by example and inspiring his brothers and fellow soldiers to push forward despite the fierce opposition they faced.
Remembering Their Sacrifice
The triumph at Vimy Ridge came at a heavy cost, with over 10,000 Canadian casualties, including the Price brothers. Lindsay Price, along with his brothers, made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
